Natural Resources in Mizoram

Rivers

Mizoram is blessed with some mighty rivers of north eastern India. The most important among them are Tlawng (also known as Dhaleswari or Katakhal), Tut (Gutur), Tuirial (Sonai) and Tuivawl which flow through the northern territory and eventually join river Barak in Cachar.

The Koldoyne (Chhimtuipui) which originates in Myanmar flows through the southern part of the state. It has four tributaries and the river is in patches. The Western part is drained by Karnaphuli (Khawthlang tuipui) and its tributaries.

Forests


Mizoram is endowed with rich forest resources. A major portion of state’s forests is tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen type. Forests are important sources of timber and other products. Plants of medicinal values are also found in the Mizoram forests.
